Docpoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival

PLEASE NOTE! Heiskuja is spoken in Finnish and does not have English subtitles.

Outi “Heis” Heiskanen is an award-winning artist and graphic designer, beloved by critcs and the nation alike. This year, DocPoint offers the unique opportunity to dive into Heis’ portrait, which will only make you love her more. In Heiskuja, the architect and director of the film Georg Grotenfelt follows Heiskanen’s life and work in the Lallukka Artists’ Home during 2012–15.
First and foremost are the artist and her art; Heiskanen’s intriguing pictures of human and animal forms, nature, and the mystical and mythological worlds bounding from images of earth and outer space. In a studio that perfectly embodies its creator, are 50 years worth of artworks big and small, travel diaries, drafts and creations, and a variety of objects brought back from faraway lands. The camera takes an eager moment to linger on the treasures. New works of art are created in the rolling rhymes of “fiu fiu fiu” and “lallallalallal-Lallukka”.
Heiskanen’s artistic diversity is seen through film reels displayed at various performances and happenings of the Bellini Academy’s art collective. The all-encompassing theme stems from Heiskanen’s veterinarian father who passed down a profound connection to animals and all of life itself.

The Trim

Uplifting snapshots from Finnish summertime’s most beloved and thoroughly hated hobby: mowing the lawn.

Pieced together from four fantastic episodes, comes several vastly different approaches to the yearly summertime task of mowing the lawn. As a mother gets fed up with toys jamming the lawn mower, the situation quickly escalates into a parade of profanities. Meanwhile a sports field requires a team to trim the grass to the exact millimeter, a sure-handed greenthumb startles and amuses with his technique, and a robot lawn mower drives a guard dog up the wall.

“There go the fucking flowers too, ah shi-!” Bring on the Summer!
